Wanted Sex Offenders Arrested by Border Patrol Agent in California

Yuma, AZ. April 21, 2008 – Two registered sex offenders were arrested by a Border Patrol agent patrolling near the Andrade, Calif. port of entry late Sunday night.

About 10 p.m. last night, a Border Patrol agent performing line watch duties near the Andrade, Calif. port of entry encountered two subjects near the United States/Mexico International Boundary. The pair, Maria Angelique Balvastro and Daniel Roy Martinez, stated that they were both United States citizens and admitted they had entered the U.S. illegally in order to avoid inspection by officers at the port.

Records checks revealed the two are registered sex offenders with active warrants for their arrest. Balvastro has a warrant from Maricopa County stemming from a probation violation and Martinez has a warrant also due to a probation violation from the Yuma County.

The two subjects were turned over to the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office.
