Philadelphia CBP Officers Seize 42 Bottles of ‘Love Potion’

Philadelphia March 21, 2008 – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at Philadelphia International Airport seized 42 medicine bottles filled with yellowish and clear liquids Tuesday. The bottles were initially discovered in the possession of a female visitor arriving from Africa on Feb. 13.

CBP officers seize 42 bottles of an unknown liquid described as a “love potion” from a traveler in Philadelphia.

A scorpion label covered vaccination labels on each of the 22 bottles containing 250 ml of clear oily liquid and 20 bottles of yellowish oily liquid. The visitor’s husband, who was waiting at the airport to pick up his wife, suggested the bottles were filled with a “Love Potion” and were solely for personal use. Neither person has contacted CBP since the liquids were initially confiscated.

A cursory review by U.S. Food and Drug Administration inspectors determined that the liquids were inadmissible and CBP will destroy the liquids.

“It is illegal to bring unknown drugs into the country and this purported Love Potion is inadmissible” said Edward Moriarty, CBP Assistant Port Director for Passenger Operations in Philadelphia. “I suppose this couple may have to find another way to ignite their passion for each other.”
