Our Borders & The FutureBy: Frank Borelli The year is 2028. The city is Los Angeles. But not Los Angeles, California: Los Angeles, Mexamerica. California is much smaller than it was during the Presidential elections of 2004. Arizona and New Mexico are no longer existent. The land that makes up what was those states, along with a large piece of southern California are now "Northern Mexico". With the loss of New Mexico and Arizona, the United States only numbered 48 until Puerto Rico was granted statehood in 2017 - then the United States went back up to 49. The Texas Constitution has always granted them the power to separate their state into as many as five states, but it's been generally agreed that they never will. The Lone Star State will always remain one state, proud of their size and heritage and - in the spirit of the Alamo - willing to stand and fight against anyone who tries to take even one square foot.
So how did all this happen? The answer to that starts back in 1801 when President Thomas Jefferson dispatched the United States Marines to Tripoli to protect and defend American shipping interests from Muslim pirates. That was the beginning of the United States' conflict against Muslim aggression, and it's a war that would wage on to this day in 2028. In the late twentieth century more attention was called to the problem of terrorism caused by radical Islamists. But it wasn't until September 11, 2001 that the majority of Americans woke up - quite literally - to the real threat and hatred that existed in that particular religion.
Stepping back just a bit, take a look at the late 1980s and early 1990s. When the first President Bush had to deploy troops to the middle east to take back Kuwait - an American ally and the victim of aggression from Saddam Hussein. For whatever reason, Hussein wasn't ejected from Iraq at that point and the country would remain a thorn in the side of civilization for another decade.
In 2001, a month after America was attacked by terrorists who used our own planes as guided missiles in attacks against the symbolic headstones of our military, economy and (attempted) executive structures, the second President Bush ordered troops into Afghanistan. We had not been attacked by Afghanistan, but the country was being run by the very terrorist organization that had attacked us: Al Qaeda.
From the very first day of America's attack on Afghanistan, the war protesting began. Exercising their First Amendment Right of Free Speech and Peaceful Assembly, protestors gathered in various places around the United States to object to the use of violence to eject Al Qaeda from Afghanistan. What about the innocents that would be harmed? What about that nation's sovereignty? What about...? What about...? What those protestors would never understand was that there were many Americans more than willing to wipe Afghanistan off the map if it would guarantee no further attacks on our homeland. From one extreme to the other, the voices balanced each other in the middle... but the middle was still an attack on Afghanistan in an attempt to prevent further attacks on the United States.
Because of the geography of and surrounding Afghanistan, many of the Islamic "Religious Soldiers" were able to flee into neighboring countries. Some of those countries may have tried to stop them, but you have to understand: politics is very different there than in the United States. Politics there, by and large, means having different interpretations of the Qur'an: of Sharia law; of what Mohammed actually meant by certain statements. Politics there is about religious disagreements - but it is still all about religion. With such a focus on Islam, borders and laws don't mean anything. Terrorists freely flowed from Afghanistan into Iran and Pakistan with others moving into other surrounding countries as well.
When it became obvious that Saddam Hussein, still leading Iraq, had continued to develop weapons of mass destruction (read: nuclear, chemical, biological), the United States had to take action there as well. The popular and liberal press immediately jumped on the bandwagon of attacking President Bush for this uncalled for aggression. A year later, when - according to that same liberal press - no weapons of mass destruction had been found, the theory that the second President Bush had attacked Iraq to finish what the first President Bush hadn't was put out by the media. Joy. Never mind that if the United States Military had done anything right, all the primary weapons of mass destruction (WMD) facilities had been destroyed in the waves of bombings that occurred. Never mind that other reputable news sources reported on the tankers and tractor-trailer trucks caught leaving Iraq for Syria - their payloads containing chemical weapons or machinery to manufacturer nuclear and biological weapon delivery systems. None of it mattered. The pacifist voice had finally gotten louder than the voice calling for any and all pertinent action to defend the United States.
At home, thanks to all the news casters being so busy attacking President Bush (2nd) and the military complex, our own borders were being over run and no one paid attention. That is, no one except the people who lived on or near those borders. Regular reports of the Mexican army invading Arizona were ignored. Confirmed, but ignored. When volunteers formed organizations to watch the borders and report immigrants illegally crossing into the United States, more "human rights activists" protested. How dare American citizens take it upon themselves to take any action that might result in the legal enforcement of our borders? Those poor people coming across are just looking for a better way of life. They are just looking for the same opportunities that our ancestors were when they immigrated here.
In 2006, the legislative branch of government debated Immigration Reform. The amount of protests that sprung up against any type of Immigration Reform was staggering. In one county public high school, the students were encouraged to attend and support the protests against Immigration Reform. In fact, the students were given Community Service hours credits if they attended the protests.
Immigration reform died a miserable death by the end of 2006. Countless thousands of illegal immigrants continued to flow across the United States borders from Mexico and from Canada. Continued confirmed and reported incursions by the Mexican army became a weekly occurrence. Border Patrol Agents soon were on the defensive as they performed their duties - often running from overwhelming numbers of well-trained men and women with better armaments than the agents were allowed to have. Among those thousands of illegal immigrants were hundreds of radical Islamic "religious soldiers"... known as terrorists in 2006.
In the Presidential election of 2012, a liberal Democrat female senator won the Presidency. Why? For three reasons: 1) Because the popular liberal press had focused on the tragedy of, and lack of "victory" in, the Iraq and Afghanistan wars; 2) Because the American public had been constantly told that the Republican party would never quit fighting until the enemy was vanquished; and 3) Because the female senator's party had pursued legislation that allowed not only convicted felons (criminals) to vote, but also illegal aliens if they simply had a driver's license. It was the only way they had a hope of winning the elections.
Even with all that going for them, the female senator's party won the presidency by a margin of less than 2% - and the vote counting was hotly debated. As her running mate, the new female president had selected a Vietnam veteran who, as his spouse, had a rich woman that liked to support the "legal rights" of illegal immigrants. And so, in 2015, the Vice-President's spouse funded, out of her private monies, but using government dollars to pay for advertising (through her husband), an effort to repay all of those poor illegal immigrants for the suffering they had suffered for so long at the hands of the United States of America.
The bill, called "The Immigrant Reparation Act of 2015" (TIRA2015) was argued - sometimes violently - in Congress for months. But by the end of 2015, the American public had been manipulated enough by the popular press that they actually believed there was a consensus - and that the consensus was this: America was wrong for ever having taken some land from Mexico; Mexico deserved that land back; and if we'd simply do the right thing by giving them back what was rightfully theirs in the first place, we'd have no more border issues. Billions of dollars would be saved and the national agreements between the U.S. and Mexico would never be stronger. Everyone would be great friends. The United States would even be able to save money by reducing manpower at the Mexican border because illegal immigration would cease in accordance with orders from the Mexican government.
TIRA2015 called for all of New Mexico, all of Arizona, part of Texas and a portion of California to be given to Mexico. The Mexican government had promised that it would name this section of land "Mexamerica". The representatives of the states affected argued back and forth. Surrender Arizona? Oh, hell no. What about the Grand Canyon? What about all of the historical sites? Others argued, what doe they matter when compared to human rights and/or suffering? Surrender New Mexico? Oh, hell no. What about all of the military installations and historical sites? What about human rights and/or suffering? Surrender Southern California? Oh, hell no. Los Angeles and other cities were far too important to the United States as a whole. What about Beverly Hills? What about Hollywood? What about human rights?
ONE group of state representatives stood their ground with absolutely no disagreement amongst themselves: Texas. Their position was firm and easily understood: Not one square foot of Texas will be surrendered to Mexico. If the United States chooses to surrender any property to Mexico, none of it will be the property of Texas or any entity owning property or residing in Texas. Should the United States legislature determine that some portion of Texas should be relinquished, Texas shall immediately secede from the union. Any attempt by any governmental entity to take any amount of property from Texas - no matter how small - shall be met with all necessary force to prevent the loss of any such property. In the event of such a necessary defense of all property held in Texas, all physically capable adult residents of Texas, and any other legal American adult resident wishing to come to the defense of Texas, will be considered a member of the standing state Militia.
The popular press was nice enough to criticize the "unreasonable and childish" outlook of Texas. To the surprise of many, the state government of Texas started an internet board to register citizens who would be willing to travel to Texas to defend the state - and its borders. When the board was first posted, the numbers grew slowly. But as word spread, so did the number of registrants. While the U.S. Congress was still trying to formalize a reaction to Texas' ultimatum, over 1,000,000 citizens registered as members of the Texas militia. Within a week the number was over 2 million. By the end of two weeks, the number of pushing 5 million. It quickly became obvious to both the U.S. Congress and the government of Mexico, that neither of them commanded enough military strength to overcome such a resistance. None of Texas would be surrendered to Mexico.
TIRA2015 was argued through the summer of 2016. In the fall of 2016, on the 15th anniversary of the September 11th attacks of 2001, the terrorists attacked the United States again. Not in the form of weapons of mass destruction as the popular press had told all Americans it would be... not in the form of planes being flown into buildings... not in the form of a suicide bomber or two...
On September 11th, 2016, more than 2,000 terrorists - having entered the country illegally from Mexico - armed themselves and declared war on America. Five hundred suicide bombers (now properly called HOMICIDE bombers thanks to the 2024 Terrorism Defense Act) strapped their explosives on and detonated themselves in high-profile public places all over the country. More than six thousand American citizens were killed by those Homicide Bombers - several hundred leaving their blood on the gates surrounding the White House as no less than a dozen Homicide Bombers blew themselves up within sight of the Oval Office. The remaining 1,500 terrorists formed themselves into 300 five-man teams and attacked public buildings around the country. Their primary targets were elementary schools, middle schools, PREschools and shopping malls. Virtually every school attacked shared one of two common characteristics: they either had a high population of children from military families, or they were located in very rural locations where law enforcement response would be especially slow. More than 19,000 American children were slaughtered that day. Before being killed by those terrorists, many female children and teachers were raped, their bodies mutilated during and after the killing process. The total number of American lives lost to the Terrorist attacks of 9/11/2016 exceeded 26,000. The country was shocked. Some didn't know what to do or say. Others knew exactly what to do and say.
Mexico's President sent a secure communication to the President of the United States demanding the full approval of TIRA2015 with implementation and transition to begin within 30 days or Mexico would attack. The U.S. President believed that there was no way America could withstand a war with Mexico after having just suffered the worst terrorist attack in human history, and therefore pursued a diplomatic solution. That "diplomatic solution" resulted in a restructuring of state boarders involving Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and Nevada. Arizona and New Mexico both shrunk some, as did Nevada. Utah and Colorado both expanded their borders to absorb pieces of New Mexico and Arizona. Mexico took two states and part of a third without ever having to fire a shot.
Thus began the Second Civil War in the United States. It should be noted that, while warring political factions within the United States fought - both physically and legislatively - they never stopped defending against other threats. Terrorists were hunted down and exterminated. No one - not even the most liberal Democrat pacifist - voiced any objection. To do so was to commit political suicide and may have resulted in being killed by a member of "The New Patriots".
The New Patriots, often viewed as an extension of the extreme rightwing political philosophies contained in the Republican party, were a new citizen militia. In Congress, HLDSA2016 was passed upon presentation - then vetoed by the president - and then her veto was over-ridden immediately. The Home Land Defense Security Act of 2016 made every able-bodied adult American citizen a member of the standing Militia. Within 72 hours of the bill being passed into law, a rider exempting all Militia members from deadly weapons laws was presented. It passed, was vetoed and then was passed again. Almost overnight all gun control laws were wiped out or ignored. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives made exactly one attempt to serve a warrant on a Militia member for illegally possessing a firearm. When well over 1,000 members of the Militia showed up to defend that single Militia member, the 24 ATFE officers on scene saw that the better part of valor was discretion and they quietly left.
Several other ill-thought but well-intentioned attempts were made by governmental bodies to disband The New Patriots. In one instance, Congress tried to use the Department of Defense to disarm citizens. At least, the Democrat liberal parts of Congress tried. Orders were issued and handed down. Some shots were fired before an educated Congressman pointed out that Posse Cumitatus specifically prohibited soldiers from being used for law enforcement. The orders were cancelled. The soldiers withdrawn. In another instance, a state governor declared a State of Emergency and then Marital Law, immediately ordering the National Guard to disarm all citizens. The problem he ran into was that better than 70% of the National Guard soldiers were also New Patriots. No shots were fired. Common sense won the day.
The United State's first female president was impeached for Dereliction of Duty and Malfeasance. The Vice-President was simply told to vacate his office or risk being shot. His wife was indicted on charges of treason and conspiracy, but was never tried. She fled the country and still lives in Argentina.
As Congress and the Presidency recovered, more common sense and less whiny pacifism broke out. The new president - our country's first African-American President... a man with an honorable military service background and an outstanding sense of what was right - the new President put a phone call into Mexico. Mexico was told to immediately stop any and all military incursions into the United States. Recent history had given them a small victory... The United States had paid a price. It was understood that the Mexican government could not stop all immigrants from attempting to illegally enter the United States. That said, Mexico was put on notice: if a single military vehicle, ground or air, or a single Mexican soldier was seen on the wrong side of the border by so much as a foot, the United States would declare unrestricted war on Mexico. The new President didn't mince words: his goal with such a military action would be the complete annihilation of the existing Mexican government and military structures... the land mass would be broken up into three states called New Arizona, New Mexico and Old Mexico. We'd stop when we hit Guatemala. Apparently the Mexican President believed it - as have all of his successors. The Mexican Army has standing orders to maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from the border with the United States.
Immigration Reform took on a new face. All adults observed attempting to illegally cross any border into the United States would be shot on sight. All children would be arrested, educated and put up for adoption. All immigrants currently illegally in the United States, upon identification, would be arrested and escorted to the nearest border. There they would have a chance to leave peacefully or try to re-enter the country. If they made the attempt to re-enter the country illegally, they would be shot without compunction. For the record, none of them was escorted to an ocean and told, "Start swimming."
In 2018 the Commercial Fuel Reform Bill was passed into law and became the CFRA. With the passage of CRFA, the 70% of United States' agricultural products that were being exported all stayed in the country. All major car/truck manufacturers that had plants in the United States were, by law, required to stop producing vehicles which required gasoline or any other oil derivative. All vehicles were made to run on ethanol, vegetable oil, or corn diesel.
At the same time, all oil importations stopped. The United States' allies in the middle east were told, "We're sorry, but our economy can no longer support yours. We'll trade you one bushel of grain, corn or wheat for one barrel of oil." That was better than what those middle eastern countries that we were unfriendly with were told. Those countries were told, "Buckle up, buttercup. We don't need you or anything you produce. If you, or any citizen or resident of your country attacks us or any citizen or resident of our country, anywhere in the world, we will declare unrestrained war against you. Collateral damage will not be taken into consideration. Oil production facilities will no longer matter. Your ability to produce oil will not matter. If necessary, we will eradicate your race." It was harsh, but everyone believed the President when he made those statements via satellite communications to every major television station in the world.
In January of 2019, America's standing army was more than 700 million strong. Every able bodied male and female over the age of 17 was a member. Conscientious objectors served as cooks and medical personnel, but everyone served. In September of 2019 another terrorist attack occurred on American citizens, but the attack was carried out in Italy. Within 72 hours the United States intelligence services had confirmed that the attackers were radical Islamic "jihadists". The President called their home country and gave that government 24 hours to turn over the attackers, planners, financial supporters, etc. It was more than he needed to do. Nothing happened. That country's government turned its collective nose up at the United States, sure that world opinion would keep the U.S. from attacking them without any compunction. Too bad for them...
Thirty seconds after the 24 hour deadline had passed the bombs started falling. Every major city in the country was laid flat by non-nuclear weapons. The death toll was estimated at just under 700,000. When it was over, the President once again got on international television to make his statement.
"To all the people of the planet Earth: we were not kidding and we will not be toyed with. The United States of America will no longer stand victim to any government or religious group. While we regret the necessary loss of life of innocents, we will no longer hold back our military might for fear of offending those who don't like us anyway. If your country, religion or government offers a safe haven to those who would perform acts of violence in an attempt to further their cause, then be warned: what happened today will eventually happen to you. There is one thing you can do to prevent it: Arrest, imprison or execute all terrorists within your borders. Get to them before they get to us... because if they get to us and harm a single American citizen, we will destroy your country's main places of habitation. We will completely destroy all infrastructure. Your country will quite literally be 'bombed back to the stone age' if that's not where you exist already. Countries who have proven themselves willing to support a Democratic governmental process, where legislated law is recognized and every citizen is given freedom of voice, will be offered an opportunity to move in and rebuild. Those areas will become colonies of those friendly democratic countries. This is your only warning. I will not make another one. I will not offer another 24-hour chance to turn over terrorists and criminals. You had better be hunting them; arresting them; imprisoning or executing them now. This is your only chance to prevent the United States from having to retaliate when terrorists attack us. Thank you for your attention. Good night."
The next day, in numerous countries around the world, Islamic clerics started a new religion: they referred to it as "Peaceful Islam" which was slightly redundant, but had a new cool meaning. "Islam" means peace... but it also means submission. When those clerics stepped up to create Peaceful Islam, they created a religion that was peacefully submissive. Not that they took sh*t from anyone, but they didn't attack anyone either. No longer did their tenants demand that they kill all non-muslims. Their holy book was written to mandate a peaceful coexistence with all religions. Mohammed and Jesus Christ were placed as equals. Their new book - the Millennium Koran - was a mix of passages from the Christian Bible, the Islamic Qur'an, and other historical documents.
Where radical Muslim clerics made numerous statements about how no Muslim would ever dare join or convert to such a religion, they were proven wrong time and time again. Muslims by the hundreds of thousands began declaring their conversion. Funding for the radical islamic terrorists stopped almost overnight. Countries around the globe began to hunt, arrest, imprison or kill those believed to be terrorists. In retribution, the terrorists performed another attack in 2020 - that time in Russia. The Russian President and military structure didn't hesitate. Taking a page from the new United States playbook on responding to terrorism, the Russian intelligence services identified the country of origin of the attackers and wiped out every major city in that country without using nuclear devices. When the bombing attacks were over, predominantly Muslim countries seemed to upheave. "Jihadists" were being hunted and exterminated like it was the favorite national past time.
In the United States there were a few economical challenges to be faced as the country switched from an oil-based economy back to an agricultural one. Our trade agreements with other countries became strictly enforced and the American dollar climbed in value once again. Countries that had once wondered about whether or not they should seek treaties and agreements with us began to step up and suggest or request them. The United States - as it always had and continues to - never wanted any enemies. We always wanted to work in peace. Cooperation is good. Compromise can be good - but it has to be measured carefully.
This new world continued until this year: 2028. For eight years the world has seen only minor "terrorist" attacks and they have always been performed by terrorists within their own country's borders. Border enforcement has become a major military operation in virtually every country of the world. Only China, Russia and the United States have standing armies numbering in excess of 20 million troops each. China is still a communist country, but current world structure doesn't give any one country an advantage. All countries treat each other - and each others' citizens - with an acceptable level of respect. Other countries began to follow the United States' example on becoming independent from oil, and now the United States is once again exporting huge quantities of agricultural products, the largest of which is vegetable oil.
The Third World War - the war against terrorism - continues. But the rules are radically different and then number of radical Islamic "jihadists" is fading. They are growing old, trying to fight while crippled, or simply dying away due to a lack of funding. No one wants to have anything to do with them. They have become the lepers of the new millennium.
The United Nations still exists. It's still in New York. The Security Council has little to do outside of managing the squabbles and warlording of fledgling countries. They never try to tell countries what to do anymore. They've been told, "Be nice or get out." No other country has offered to house them.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What's the message?
There are several.
1) If we don't pay attention to every enemy, we cannot defend against them. Mexico has been making military incursions into Arizona (and probably New Mexico) for months if not years. While our country suffers these invasions, we debate how to treat illegal aliens. If we're not careful, we'll be able to do nothing about it.
2) All security issues are related. While the argument drones on about border security and immigration reform, little to nothing is being said about the potential thousands of radical Islamic "jihadists" who could be entering our country through these porous borders. Border security is no longer about illegal immigration prevention: it's about stopping terrorists from attacking us from within.
3) Fighting terrorism without recognizing the inherent danger of radical Islam is like trying to cure sexually transmitted diseases without ever saying "Sex is how it gets transmitted." Sexual activity didn't create disease, but it is certainly a vehicle to transport it. Islam may not have created terrorism, but it certainly provides a motivation and rationalization for the use of violence "in god's name".
4) Political bickering has no place in Homeland Security. The 2nd Amendment is inviolate. Stop arguing about it and use the power of it to create the world's largest standing army in the United States.
5) Enact legislation to remove - not reduce, but REMOVE - our dependency on imported oil. Force countries that receive or buy our food items to pay with equal or greater amounts of oil, but only until we can replace that need for oil with other fuel options. Then make them pay in U.S. dollar equivalencies, or don't sell anything to them.
6) Immediately cease and desist all peacekeeping efforts in support of the United Nations unless someone is getting a bill. We spend far too many defense dollars trying to bring peace to countries who will eradicate themselves in a year or less if we simply leave them alone. Those same countries complain about us being there. So stop. Don't send a single soldier to any country to help the people of that country unless that country's government agrees to pay us for our services. Starting immediately, if it's an oil rich country, then charge them two barrels of oil per day per soldier we put on the ground - plus expenses.
7) Start treating treason as treason. Speaking out against United States' policy is exercising your First Amendment rights of freedom of speech. ACTING against the United States is treason. Prosecute those who commit treason no matter whose wife, husband, daughter, son, secretary, intern, or whatever they are; no matter what race, religion, cultural background, sex, sexual orientation or whatever; no matter how much money they have. There is no protection from prosecution for Treason. Hire a good lawyer. If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed for you by the courts. But he's going to speak English so you'd better too. If you're found guilty, the execution will occur before midnight that same day. Know what you want as your last meal in advance.
