Gen., Eduardo Medina Mora, said that the amount of weapons seized from organized crime groups during the present administration would be sufficient to arm any Central American country. 5,000 weapons have been seized in just the first ten days of this month, which brings the total up to twenty-four thousand. He added that this represents a hard blow to the drug traffickers since they cannot access weapons at the same rate as that in which they are being seized. At an interview prior to his departure from Spain, Pres. Calderon said that organized crime had challenged the State’s monopoly of power. Critica (Sonora) 6/16/08
