I am the change in which I seek

E-mail Print PDF

Carolyn Hileman

I am the change in which I seek, I am not the president, I have no such high title, but I am a capable individual who can bring about change in my world. When I see that there is someone of want I can find it within myself to help them for which they seek. I can tend to the elderly, checking in on them daily or weekly, I can expend the time to get to know them, listen to their needs and their praises of their children, I do not need someone to tell me to do these things as I am capable of identifying a need and using my resources to fill them.

I am the change I seek, I am but one person, but I am also a consumer, I know that buying helps the economy and that by helping the economy grow I am not only helping myself but my neighbors. I refuse to let the negativity of the media determine what I do or how I do it, I am the change I seek. I can either hide what I have and hope one day things will be better and watch as they get worse, or I can live my life and help my fellow man and watch as things start to get better, the future is up to me, I am the change in which I seek.

I am the change in which I seek, I am the difference in whether the person I saw do something wrong is punished or walks free. I decide what my morals, convictions and my life is, not anyone else. I am the first and most important influence on my children, if I teach them hate, they will learn to hate, if I teach them love, they will learn to love, I chose to teach them love. I refuse all labels attached to me by people who do not know me and would have no idea as to whom I am; I am the change for which I seek.

I do not need a president, legislators or media to tell me who I am, I do not need them to legislate what I already know is right. Change does not come about because some one is elected; it comes about because I choose to allow it. I am my own hope, my own change; I am in charge of my destiny. If I want a better income I will study and make it happen, if I want a healthier life I will change it for the better, if I want a better world I will start by being a better person. No one person can change my life for the better unless that person is me; I am the change in which I seek.

The sheriffs who stand on the front line in Arizona's fight against illegal immigration are being put in a position of spending taxpayer dollars on mounting a legal defense - instead of buying the equipment and weapons they need to keep up with the firepower of the drug cartels.
